Hickory Creek – Murphy’s Law (Jan 2023)

Site 91

Beautiful site right on the lake. Felt like we were on a cruise ship looking out over the water from inside the camper. The weather was BEAUTIFUL (in the 60s & 70s) in January!

Murphy’s Law – “What can go wrong will go wrong”. That was the theme of this trip it seemed, but there were plenty of fun times too! It all started when Kevin went to hook up the camper at storage and the battery was dead, so off to O’Rielly’s to buy a new one. Got to our spot and the auto-levels kept erroring out, then went to hook up the water and heard a leak spraying behind the wall where all of the plumbing is. Kevin found the issue (probably a cracked plastic fitting from the freeze), so off to the RV parts store. A simple $5 part, right? NOPE, the first store was out of the piece we needed and SEVEN stores later, with no success (we could write a review on hardware stores in the Denton area), Kevin was able to find enough random pieces to try to jerry rig a fix. Three or four times of taking apart and putting it back together, he thought he had it fixed. Then, after holding pressure for a while, the drip started . . . .Ugh. Now, keep in mind, the space Kevin was working in, then angle he had to sit, the lack of light and the spaghetti mess or wires made this nearly Mission Impossible. His persistance and patience always amaze me. Even after all of that hard work, he is going to have to order the right piece and hopefully that will do the trick. So, we had no water this trip. Flushed the toilet with a bucket of water. Filled up the dog bowls with the spicket outside. Brushed our teeth with bottled water. And took the dishes home everyday to wash. First world problems . . . LOL

Cameron and Kevin chopped some wood before we left to make sure we could have some campfires. This is definitely one of my favorite parts of camping, watching the fire, sitting under the twinkle lights and relaxing. We had “walking tacos” for dinner one night, and that will definitly be on the meal planning list for the next trip.

Autumn and Nolan joined us for dinner a couple of nights.. After loading the dogs up to take them home, Nolan didn’t see the wooden post and scraped/dented the side of his car – ugh!

Cameron brought along her friend, Kaylee, who has been on a camping trip with us before. We got to bring the boat this time. Hooked it up to my car at home, and low and behold, the connection for the lights didn’t work, so we drove with caution (one more hurdle to cross). I haven’t been out on the boat since my back surgery 9 months ago. Who’d have know we’d be boating in January?!?!

The girls cooked burgers on the Blackstone and then out came the most GORGEOUS sunset!

I tried out working from the camper for a couple of hours and ate lunch with Kevin. As long as we have Kevin’s hotspot and a good signal, we’re good to go! I could get used to this – Look at that view!

As usual, the dogs enjoyed every minute, getting in plenty of sleep, walks and sampling each and every meal we ate. This steak Kevin grilled was one of the best we’ve had!!

Can’t wait to come back. We already have the next trip here booked. Going to try the site next to this one to really shake things up. Hopefully the disintegrated firepit and grill with a 45 degree tilt will be improved on the next one over.

Until next time . . . .
