What an awesome week! I can’t believe it’s over and I’m so sad we have to go. We wanted leave about 8 and ended up heading out at the crack of 9:30. 14 hr trip right? That should put us home around midnight . . . . 2:30AM is when we pulled into the driveway -ugh!. We need to learn that however long we think it will take, add AT LEAST 2-4 hours. Fortunately, Kevin and I both have off Friday to recoup.
It was a pretty uneventful trip home. Although, we did miss a turn and ended up on Hwy 56, which I’m pretty sure should go down in the books as “The World’s Most Boring Highway”. This is what we we strategically planned not to do, to end up on this route. We had the drive all mapped out on Waze and somehow STILL got it all wrong. We like the drive through Texas, with the lovely rest stops, small towns, farms to look at and bigger cities too – you know, a nice little variety to keep things interesting. Instead, we went through what seemed like hundreds of miles of no restaurants, no gas stations, no houses or even electrical poles as far as the eye could see – who knew places like this still exist in the United States?? Well, we FINALLY got to a town with civilization, and were all crossing our legs by then. Sure enough, the one and ONLY gas station in town had a sign on the door that said “Sorry, bathrooms out of order”. It was an emergency situation now, and the abandoned building across the highway was the only place we could find. . . . gotta do what you gotta do!

Lunch was fried chicken at a gas station – healthy eating at it’s best. Back on the road and the dark clouds started to roll in, alerts were chiming in on our phones, and down came the rain. That always makes for a good long distance drive. We added some more missing states on our “License Plate Game”, but we’re never as into that on the way home as we are on the way there. Dinner was at the world’s slowest Sonic – not what I’d call fast food.

It’s good be home and we’re all exhausted. Time to get back to the real world!! Now that all of the wedding planning and Cameron’s birthday trip to Ray Roberts and the Colorado trip are over, I’ve got to get our next trip planned! I can’t stand to have nothing in the books. Camping trip here we come? Until next time . . .
